2026 qUEER & Christian retreat

So many of us have spent years navigating faith spaces that asked us to shrink — to split our identity from our spirituality, to earn belonging that should have been freely given, to make peace with a God we were handed by people who were afraid.

This retreat is built for something different.

From October 14–17, 2026, a small group of LGBTQ+ Christians and allies will gather in the high desert of New Mexico with Rev. Brandan Robertson for four days of healing, honest theology, and the kind of community that only forms when queer people of faith finally stop performing and start breathing.

This is not a conference. It is not a packed-out event where you leave exhausted. It is a container — spacious, intentional, and unhurried — where your queerness and your faith are not in tension. They are the point.

To preserve the intimacy of the experience, this retreat is limited to just 20 participants.

Sessions will include:

  • Queerness as a Spiritual Paradigm — Your queerness is not the obstacle to your faith. It may be one of its greatest gifts. We explore what it means to see the world, scripture, and God through a genuinely queer lens — and why this posture is more aligned with Jesus than most of what gets called Christianity.

  • Who Told You That? — A session for the wounds. We name the harm of fear-based faith directly — the conversion therapy, the clobber verses, the God of conditional love — and begin asking what remains when we clear all of that away. This will be the most emotionally honest session of the weekend, held with great care.

  • Reconciling Faith & Sexuality — Not a truce between two warring parts of yourself, but a discovery that they were never truly at war. We'll spend time with the queer saints of scripture — Ruth and Naomi, David and Jonathan, the Ethiopian Eunuch — and reclaim the parts of the Bible's story that have always belonged to us.

  • Queering the Bible — A confident, accessible tour of every passage that has been weaponized against LGBTQ+ people, what biblical scholarship actually tells us about them, and how to reclaim scripture as something that was never against you to begin with.

  • Queer Sexual Ethics — Not a list of rules. An honest, theologically grounded conversation about building a sexual ethic that is actually ours: rooted in human flourishing, consent, and the wisdom of scripture — not the shame of purity culture.

  • Building Community That Actually Holds Us — Many of us are navigating faith and identity alone. This session is practical and hopeful: what does genuine queer Christian community look like, how do we find it, and how do we build it where it doesn't exist?

Just as important as the sessions themselves will be the time between them — walks, shared meals, late-night conversations, and the Friday night we go out together as a group to celebrate the fact that we exist, we are here, and queer joy is sacred.

Retreat Schedule

Wednesday, October 14 — Arrival Participants arrive and settle in. In the evening, we gather for the first time — a simple, unhurried opening session to introduce ourselves, establish the container, and begin the conversation. Come as you are.

Thursday, October 15 — Going Deeper A full day with three sessions: morning, afternoon, and evening. We move from the theological foundations of queer faith, through the wounds of fear-based religion, toward the possibility of genuine integration. This is the heart of the weekend.

Friday, October 16 — Going Further Three more sessions covering scripture, sexual ethics, and community — and an evening out together at a local LGBTQ+ venue in Albuquerque. Joy is part of the curriculum.

Saturday, October 17 — Being Sent We close with a sacred, intentional morning gathering: a ceremony of sending where we name what we are leaving behind and what we are carrying home. Brunch follows before departures.
